Shahab Hyder, MD

Internal Medicine

Dr. Hyder is a board-certified physician in Internal Medicine. He joined Neurology After obtaining his bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas in 2001, Dr. Hyder went on to receive his MD from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Hyder was then trained in Internal Medicine at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital residency program, with a specialty in Hospitalist Medicine.

Dr. Hyder has practiced hospital-based medicine in downtown and suburban Miami prior to relocating to Austin in 2014. After practicing for over a decade in the hospital setting treating acute and emergent illnesses, he began to be involved in the hospital-based transition of care to post-acute facilities and home health services. This work led to a developing interest in long-term disease management. Along with a burgeoning interest in nutrition and its role in disease management and preventative care, he decided to change his focus from acute hospital care to primary care.

Dr. Hyder speaks Spanish proficiently and has been caring for Spanish-speaking patients since his medical school training in Nashville. He is affiliated with Ascension Seton Medical Center.

Dr. Hyder is married with three young children. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, reading, and outdoor activities. Since returning to Austin, he has had a renewed interest in Mountain Biking and can be found on local trails throughout central Texas.
